The District Janjgir-Champa was established on 25 May 1998 and is considered the Heart of Chhattisgarh as it is situated in the center of the State. The district is a major producer of food grains in Chhattisgarh. The Vishnu Mandir of Janjgir district reflects its golden past. The Hasdeobango project is considered as the life supporting canal for the district with 75% being used for irrigation.

The district is located between the longitudes of 21 .6’ degrees to 22 .4’ degrees towards the north 0 0 and latitude 82 .3’ degree to 83 .2’ degree to the east. The altitude of the district is 294.4 metres above sea level. It is bounded by Raigarh in the east, Bilaspur in its west, by Korba in the north and by Mahanadi River, Raigarh district in the south. The district is spread over 6836 sq.km with a total population of 16.20 lakh as per Census 2011.
